Led Into Slaughter - Bernard Kudjoe

Maybe we made you angry
Maybe not
What you’ve brought forth
We cannot bear
Have you forgotten so soon?
You woke us up gently
Kindly displayed our tools
At the doors of our eyes
Tamely, you led us into the field
We did not know
The evil you harbored
Out on this naked land
We mingled under your volcano
Our featherless bodies rainwater
A meal cook in us
Did our axes fly into your eyes?
We pondered and pleaded
Have you forgotten so soon
You, who reign from the skies?
